This study was commissioned in order to identify and promote good practice in relation to working with older people experiencing dementia.
Recommendations centre on the quality of time spent between carer and service user and specifications for future tools.
The highlight conclusion is that care workers need to be enabled and supported to spend quality time with individuals. This is not necessarily about the length of time spent with people, but more about the nature of how that time is spent. It is about care workers ‘seeing the person behind the dementia’ (a quote from a member of staff).
