This guide was produced by Dementia North as part of a Department of Health funded development project to explore how people with dementia can be involved in service planning and development.

The guide stresses that the involvement of people with dementia in service planning and development is in its infancy and there is much still much to learn. However, we now have clear demonstrations in practice that people with dementia are no longer prepared to be excluded and we have examples of the contributions that they can make.

The authors assert that the task now is to build on these early successes, to encourage further learning from experience and to ensure that this learning is shared.
