Sixth UK Dementia Congress call for papers

The Journal of Dementia Care has announced the sixth UK Dementia Congress, to be held in Liverpool, UK on 1-3 November 2011. The UK Dementia Congress is the largest annual multi-disciplinary dementia-focused event and exhibition in the UK. We invite abstracts of proposed papers and posters, on any aspect of support, care and treatment for people with dementia, their families and care staff, in any service setting.

The theme: Meeting the challenge of improving services in the context of GP commissioning and financial constraints

We are determined that the value and importance of the aims and objectives of the National Dementia Strategy in England, and its counterparts in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, should not be lost in the current challenging financial climate. We are particularly interested in papers that address both the challenges and the opportunities offered by the new dementia commissioning and funding structures. Preference will be given to good practice examples that can show that their project or service provides an innovative and high quality effective and cost-effective response to the support needs of people with dementia and their carers, both family and friends and paid care workers, in both community and residential settings.

Involving people with dementia and carers
As in previous years, a strong thread running through the congress will be the experience of people with dementia, and involvement of them and their families in services at every level. Proposals should show that this important aspect has been addressed in their project or service.

Knowledge-based practice
All presentations should demonstrate how practice is linked to knowledge gained from research, experience, guidelines or expert consensus.

Workshops
It will be possible to include a limited number of short (40min) early morning and lunchtime interactive workshops. Please send a detailed proposal.

Posters
We welcome posters for display in the main Congress concourse. These should describe an innovative project or service with comment/evaluation. Posters describing research work are most welcome.

How to submit your proposal
Please fill in the details below, including a summary of no more than 300 words, and send (as a Word document, text only, no images at this stage) no later than 21 April 2011 to Alex Palmer (alex@hawkerpublications.com) or post to Alex Palmer, UK Dementia Congress, Hawker Publications, Culvert House, Culvert Road, London SW11 5DH.

Submissions will be assessed by members of a multi-disciplinary panel convened by the Journal of Dementia Care . Applicants will be informed by the end of June 2011 whether or not their presentation or poster can be included in the programme.
